THE BEGINNING

I first started my media arts journey playing around in music production software, but once I was given a video camera and used an editing program, my creativity sparked and ignited a passion for filmmaking. I created many videos for my school projects and won competitions with those videos. My highlight during this era though, was having one of my comedy videos played during assembly, and hearing an entire school crack up laughing with tears in their eyes. I had never heard such a loud, joyful sound before. That was when I knew that I wanted to incite emotions through media for the rest of my life.

FILM SCHOOL

After high school, I pursued Cinema Arts at Vanguard University of Southern California. I tried all sorts of filmmaking positions such as directing, writing, casting, shooting, but what had always clicked with me was editing. I still liked being behind the camera as well though, so I took on many cinematography and editing gigs. I worked part-time at my department’s film lab, where I managed all film gear, rented them out to students, and taught them how to use the high-budget cameras. I also took an internship working for an official Adobe certification program and helped set up classes and checked people in. During my time at film school, I created many short films with my colleagues and gained invaluable experience. For my senior thesis project, I wrote, directed, and edited a short film that won 4 awards at different film festivals. I received my first standing ovation from this short film, and once again I felt that spark of confirmation that this was the field I’m meant to be in. In 2015, I graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication with an emphasis in Film Production.

HOLLYWOOD

Straight out of film school, I worked professionally for Duality Filmworks in LA and worked on a large variety of projects in a short amount of time. Almost every week was a completely different project with new challenges. I first started with editing movie trailers, red carpet events, wedding highlights, TV sizzles/teasers/promos, and even cam op’d for a Star Trek documentary. Soon afterwards, I became the sole editor for a new reality TV show called Just Junie, which went on to win Best New Series. I also edited episodes of another successful reality TV show called Pigman the Series.

YOUTUBE

What I truly wanted was to edit videos that I was personally passionate about. So in 2017, I left the Hollywood scene and pursued editing for YouTubers. I was hired by OfflineTV, kickstarted Joeykaotyk's channel, edited for a few startup Pokemon YouTubers, and even made my own videos. I was able to learn a lot from editing YouTube style videos. During this time I also took art and motion graphic design commissions where I created many different artworks for streamers. In 2023, I was hired by DougDoug and made many fun, story-driven main channel videos. I learned even more about comedic timing and pacing from comedic geniuses. It was a blast!

I have had such a fulfilling life over the past decade and I'm truly grateful for everything leading up to this point. I cannot wait to see where I go next!
